A Fund Raising Appeal for Neva

 As one of the Juveniles they have helped while in detention at Kampiringisa, COH Uganda followed Neva, one year after her release from the remand home, only to find that her suffering had not changed, but rather doubled because she is about to give birth to a child who is likely to end up as a juvenile, a street child, a domestic thief and a reject… just like the mother if no action is taken. Our appeal to help children who find themselves in circumstances such as Neva is best described in the Word from Crib of Hope (COH) founder, a 17-year-old Patience Kezaabu below;

“Crib of Hope arose from my love for children, especially street children. Realizing that some of the street children end up in prison was devastating. My love for these children led me to see Juveniles in a new light. Interacting with the Juveniles of my age, and some younger than I, has reassured me about one thing: these juveniles-or friends of mine- are wonderful people, just like everyone else. They have passions and dreams; likes and dislikes. They want to be loved just like any other child and want to have opportunities in the future. Most of these juveniles come from deplorable backgrounds and this has an impact on the decisions they make, even the ones that cause them to break the law. As a community, it is important for us to support these juveniles as they face a life-changing journey. We can do this through motivating them, offering them opportunities and helping them to forgive those they think they cannot forgive as well as themselves. It is important to recognize juveniles as people who are part of our community; to treat them with love and care; to help them change their mindset as we change our own perspectives of them. It does not take much to help anyone that is vulnerable and that is why I encourage everyone to reach out, not just to juveniles but anyone who is in need of help. Helping is love in action”.
